annual signature event "Buffet Blowout". The event will
be held at CAN AM Importique (Lake City Studios) located at 3188 Thunderbird Crescent,
Burnaby.

The Event
This
charity event will transport you to the late decades of last
millennium. Now in its 9th year, this signature event
will showcase how Vancouver's
top event professionals can transform a studio and take you back in
time with culinary display, design and entertainment. Each
caterer will be teamed up with a design/décor company and together they
will create a taste and visual experience encompassing a decade.
Food industry media and celebrities will select the recipients of the
Best Caterer and Best Décor awards. Attendees will voice their
opinion and choose the recipient of the People's Choice award.
All proceeds from this event will go to The Jody Horn Fairy Wellness
Foundation - Assisting single parent victims of cancer. Join us
as we travel through time from the days of the malt shop car hop and
poodle skirts to the groovy days of flower power, peace and love, then
get on out to the funky disco dance floor. Break out your bell
bottoms or jumpsuit and immerse yourself in the delectable food and
creative flair at this collaborative event industry showcase!

FEBRUARY EVENT REVIEW
|
|
|
Michael Cerbelli's: Hot Event & Entertainment Ideas:
2008™ certainly delivered
as promised!
Presented on
February 20th at the beautiful Sutton Place Hotel, Michael
Cerbelli, President of Special Events, Total Entertainment, did not
disappoint his audience.
The
personable presentation style of Mr. Cerbelli, combined with lively and
thought provoking audio visual support, kept an audience of over fifty
local event professionals riveted to their seats! The 90 minute
presentation of over 30 event ideas and vendors - and where you can
find them, took us on a journey of ideas from the most inexpensive and
re-usable vases and table lighting, right through to human disco balls,
Dinner in the Sky and Quick Change Artists.
The joy of
this business truly emanated from the enthusiastic, experienced and
seemingly fearless Michael Cerbelli; his exuberance was infectious.
He encouraged
event professions to collaborate, share ideas and vendors with each
other and their suppliers, so that the creative source has a place to
come to life. His message was also to have fun while making a
living and remember what is important to you in your own life.
Mr. Cerbelli is also a founding member of the SEARCH Foundation, an
organization started by event professionals in the USA to
help those in our industry who find themselves in need. You can
find more information about SEARCH at www.ises.com and www.searchfoudation.org.
Thank
you to all those who attended this event, our event sponsors The Sutton
Place Hotel, BIV Magazines, Canadian Event Perspective, Clark's AV,
Maranda Digital Print, ePly, Brian Dennehy Photography.

STRATEGIC PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
|
|
|
HollyNorth
Production Supplies Ltd.
HollyNorth
is a diverse corporate member of ISES Vancouver and serves many facets
of Vancouver's
thriving entertainment production business.
From
it's beginnings as a pyrotechnical and special effect supply and rental
business just ten years ago, HollyNorth has grown immensely. With
a retail location and HQ in Burnaby, a web store, a Canadian dealer
network and two new dealers in Cape Town S.A., and Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia (and more coming), HollyNorth truly has an international
perspective on supplying the international special event industry.
President
Mike Kaerne and his small army of friendly and knowledgeable staff,
service the film, theatre and special event industry, with everything
from theatrical/film makeup, to 'HOLO' dance floors, to fireworks.
A
long time supporter of ISES, Mike Kaerne reports that, "As we
build towards 2010 there are more and more special events that we are
asked to participate in".
Recent
events include the Richmond Winter Festival where HollyNorth supplied
an artificial ice rink, along with snow and several snow men for décor.

They
also participated in VANOC's recent night at the Orpheum and provided
the search lights. "They are the only ones around that plug into a
110 circuit" Mike said "no special operator or special permit
required".
The
recent SUCCESS fundraiser held at GM place also utilized HollyNorth's
pyrotechnics, ice jets and low lying fog.
Mike
sees a return to the more theatrical, spectacular event in Vancouver, and
HollyNorth's focus is to work with event planners to do what it takes
to provide products and ideas for these events.
"If we can't provide all of the elements
for an event we are quite happy to recommend other ISES members and
work with them to give the client the whole production," Mike
says. "We work with everyone from catering to Set Dec, to
the AV people, to give them their effects and special
pieces. We are happy to be one of the little cogs in the
whole machine."
HollyNorth's
sister company is Off Set Rentals. "Through Off Set, we can
offer more to our clients such as tents, portable floors, chairs,
heaters, for more of the 'outdoorsy' events."

GREEN MEETING GUIDE
|
|
|
A
Call for Green Suppliers
Launching April 2008 the Green Meeting Guide is a print and online
resource directory designed to help anyone who plans events in Canada
find sustainable supplier options. As an initiative of Innovolve
Group www.innovolve.com, the Green Meeting Guide will
allow suppliers to register specific products/service offerings that
meet the category guidelines for 'green'. The guide is intended
to serve as a practical manual and industry reference tool for event
planners, suppliers and buyers. Endorsed by the Green Meeting
Industry Council (GMIC), the underlying theme of the Green Meeting
Guide is to advocate sustainability: local ownership, social
enterprise, environmental and ecological impact. Interested
suppliers can apply to be listed in the Green Meeting Guide at www.greenmeetingguide.com
